Arrange a Cremains Burial or Scattering Service

Scheduling

To schedule a cremains burial or scattering, please contact us at (330) 359-5235 or by email at Foxfield@WildernessCenter.org. We will need to know if interment or scattering rights have already been purchased, the name of the deceased, the desired date and time for the service, and the expected number of attendees.

Cremains Burial/Scattering on a Plot

The process for planning a cremains burial or scattering on a plot is as follows:

  1. Complete a plot purchase.
  2. Schedule a service date with our staff and pay the associated site preparation fees.

  3. Foxfield staff will prepare a path to the site and create space for the expected number of attendees. For burial of cremains, we open and decorate the grave to return your loved one to the earth in a beautiful, sustainable way. For scattering of cremains, we trim vegetation on the site to allow for a graceful scattering of the ashes.

  4. Gather on the day of the service with friends and family and prepare to celebrate the life of your loved one. Ashes may be buried directly in the earth or inside of a biodegradable container, like a paper or cornstarch urn, or may be scattered on the surface of the plot.

  5. If the cremains are buried, close the grave by hand after the service.

Cremains Scattering in a Communal Space

The process for planning a cremains scattering in a communal scattering garden includes the following steps:

  1. If scattering rights in a communal space have not been previously purchased for the deceased, you will need to purchase these rights before proceeding with the scattering.
  2. Schedule a service date with Foxfield Preserve. There are no site preparation fees for scattering in the communal scattering garden.

  3. Gather on the day of the service with friends and family and prepare to celebrate the life of your loved one. Ashes may be scattered at any place within the garden.

  4. Since the scattering garden is a communal space, the placement of memorial stones or plantings is not permitted. However, alternatives like The Wilderness Center’s Tree of Life Memorial Fund will plant trees in honor of your loved one through donations.
