Conserving the Land
Foxfield Preserve is one of over twenty land preserves managed by the Conservation team at The Wilderness Center. At Foxfield, the prairie land is being restored to mimic the Central Mesic Tallgrass Prairie (CEGL 002203). Few of these prairies remain, plowed under across most of North America. The forest land is being restored to the most common forest type in Northeast Ohio at the time of settlement. Beech-Maple has a rounded Global Status of G2 – Imperiled (NatureServe 2011).
