Cremation Services

Foxfield Preserve offers interment of cremains on a purchased plot or scattering in our shared garden space. With a focus on conservation and respect for the earth, this is the perfect choice for families who value environmental responsibility and preservation while searching for a way to honor their loved ones.

Cremains Burial

The process of interring cremated remains is similar to the interment process for full-body burial. Each burial site will be decorated to return your loved one to the earth in a beautiful, sustainable way.

The process for planning a cremains burial is as follows:

  1. Our staff will work with you to find the perfect spot that best reflects the personality and spirit of your loved one. The purchase of a plot is a requirement for cremains burial.

  2. Schedule a service date with Foxfield Preserve and pay any outstanding site preparation fees.

  3. Gather on the day of the service with friends and family and prepare to celebrate the life of your loved one. Ashes may be buried directly in the earth or inside of a biodegradable container, like a paper or cornstarch urn.

  4. Close the grave by hand after the service.

A member of the Foxfield Preserve staff will be present to assist you throughout all stages of this process. We offer various options for memorializing your loved one, including planting native trees, shrubs, grasses, or flowers, and recommend vendors for the installation of a memorial stone.

Scattering

Scattering ashes can also be a way to celebrate the life and journey of your loved one, and to reflect on the memories and moments shared together.

Foxfield Preserve offers scattering services in our nature preserve’s dedicated garden space. Tucked behind a large pine tree, our scattering garden overlooks Sugarcreek Valley and is easy to find when visiting. Our staff will schedule with you to purchase scattering rights to the garden, record any genealogical information you would like saved, and help with the scattering of ashes on the day of the service. Whether you prefer a private ceremony or a larger gathering, we are here to help you create a meaningful and memorable experience for you and your loved ones.

Since the scattering garden is a communal space, the placement of memorial stones or plantings is not permitted. However, alternatives like The Wilderness Center’s Tree of Life program will plant trees in honor of your loved one through donations. This is an excellent option to consider in lieu of flowers.
